We watch a lot of companies try to fix the same problem the same way.

Engagement dips, so something gets added. A new perk. Another survey. A wellness stipend. A pizza party on Friday. All good things. None of them touch what's actually wrong.

What made us start paying attention wasn't the programs. It was the quiet stuff happening underneath them. The person who turned into a human spreadsheet because two systems won't talk to each other. The "just ask Susan" that somehow became load bearing. The seven approvals it takes to do something simple.

Here's the uncomfortable part. Your best people are really good at making a broken system look like it works. They build the workarounds. They carry the context. They quietly plug the leaks all day. So from the top, everything looks fine. Right up until they're burned out, checked out, or leave.

And then the response is usually another resilience workshop. As if the people are the thing that needs fixing.

What if the engagement problem was never about engagement? That's the question the article asks, and what to do instead.

If your team keeps working around the same friction instead of fixing it, the problem might be the work, not the people.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:

After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.

“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
